- Operating Instructions
- *------------------------*
- DO!
- - Place all files in the same directory/drawer.
- - Wait until the program is ready before pulling down any menus.
- - Give the program as much memory as you can.
- This is a HUGE program. If the program fails, it was probably because
- it ran out of memory. Close all unnecessary windows, close unneeded
- programs, clean up your RAMDisk, etc, and try again.
- - Enjoy the program, and create your own puzzle files.
- - Send a check if you like the program.
-
- DON'T!
- - DON'T ask me "Where is Vana?"
- - DON'T run the program on a write-protected disk.
- The program needs to save which puzzles have been used, player names, etc.
- If you locked your disk, these information would be lost.
- - DON'T close the Wheel window while the disk is still spinning.
- If you do, some of your preferences might not be saved properly.
- - DON'T hold down the key when pressing the keyboard.
- I intentionally left the keyboard buffering so you may type ahead.
- Be careful not to press the 'S' key twice.

- Features
- *----------*
- - All rules of the "real" game is implemented.
- - Bankrupts, Free Spins, Loose a Turn, and $250 Vowels.
- - Having to solve the puzzle when there are no more vowels left.
- - A variety of puzzles and clues.
- And then some more... I'll let you discover them yourselves.
-
- - Automatic Puzzle Formatting. The program is smart enough to figure out how
- many words would fit on each line, and centers them too.
- It will also pre-display punctuations just like the "real" game.
-
- - You can play the whole game without ever touching the keyboard except for
- SOLVing the Puzzle. Of course, you may not want to do this, so I've imple-
- mented keyboard commands:
-
- S or SpaceBar --> Spin
- B or BackSpace --> Buy a Vowel
- ESC or RETURN --> Solve the Puzzle
- + and - --> Volume Control
-
- Once you've Spin, you may click one of the letters on the screen, or
- press the letter on the keyboard.
- You may choose a Vowel similarly.
-
- - Up to FOUR players may play at once.
- Pulldown the "Players" menu and select "Enter Names."
- Type in each player's name followed by a RETURN.
- Just press RETURN to keep the same name.
- If less than four people are playing, fill in the rest of the
- names with "-" (minus sign.)
-
-
- *------------------------*
- What's in those files?
- *------------------------*
-
- Wheel.Doc.......... Tells you how to unpack Wheel3.4
- Wheel.ReadMe....... The file you are currently reading.
- Wheel.Batch........ Renames short Arc-ed names to their real Amiga names.
- Wheel3.4........... Wheel Of Fortune Program.
- Wheel.Puzzle....... AmigaBasic Random Access File. Contains Puzzles.
- Wheel.TXT.......... Plain TEXT file. Contains same puzzles as Wheel.Puzzle
- Wheel.Preferences.. Contains Default Player Names, Scores, etc.

- Creating your own Puzzles
- *---------------------------*
- You may skip this section now because I have already entered more than 50
- puzzles for you. But when you're sick of them, return to this section to find
- out how you can create your own puzzles.
-
- 1. Use your favorite TEXT editor to create a TXT file.
- Ed, Emacs, AEdit, and MemoPad are some of the many editors you can use.
- Do NOT use TextCraft, NotePad, and other editors that stores stylistic
- information in the file.
-
- The file may contain as many puzzles as you like.
- Each line should be in this format:
-
- Celibacy is not hereditary | Phrase
-
- That is, the Puzzle itself, followed by a vertical bar, and then the Clue.
- To get the vertical bar:
- Hold down the SHIFT key,
- and press the key to the left of the BACKSPACE
-
- You may use extra spaces if you like, the program will filter them out.
- The Puzzle will be converted to uppercase, but the Clue will be left
- as you type them.
-
- 2. Save the file with an extension TXT.
- Actually it does not matter, but it will help you remember which TEXT
- file goes with which Puzzle file (remember, you can NOT edit the Puzzle
- file!)
-
- 3. Run Wheel3.4
- Choose CONVERT file from the Puzzle menu.
- Follow the prompts shown to you there.
- A line that contains an unacceptable puzzle will be ignored.
- You may fix them using your TEXT editor, and run the CONVERT again, or
- simply ignore it.
-
- 4. After the conversion is completed the program will tell you how many
- puzzles were converted. The new Puzzle file is ready for use!
-
- 5. Select "Use Another File" from the Puzzle menu to use this file.
- The program would use this file until told otherwise.
- By asking your friends to create puzzle files, you can trade puzzle files
- with them, so you can "actually" play the game.
-

- Copyrights and Stuff
- *----------------------*
- This program is NOT Copyrighted (those TV guys have the original idea.)
- I don't care what you do with this program. You may copy it, give it away
- to your friends and enemies, modify it, even burn it in a satanic ritual..
- The only condition is that you do NOT make any money with this program!
- I Spend MANY MANY Hours working on this program, and you did NOT!
-
- I wrote this program because I wanted one, and there wasn't one.
- I didn't plan it to be so feature packed, but friends kept on telling me to
- put this feature and that, so I did. So if you have any suggestions, let's
- hear it. I don't guarantee that I would implement it, but who knows?
- And how about adding the features yourself?
- I think the program is quite readable.
-
- That's all I have to say, Have Fun!
